NEW ENGLAND ADVENTURE (AKA PA's Work) (and Virginia) - JANUARY 19-31st 2007

After twenty hours of travelling we have arrived in Richmond, Virginia. Our trip got off to a very rough start before we ever even left Chile - the customs agent in chile would not allow us to leave the country because ma and pa could not produce a document to prove that I was their child! Our passports were not proof enough, and after a long twenty minute "debate" we were denied. We all then sat in the airport, stressed out, while the folks tried to figure out a way to get my birth certificate to the airport within an hour. After 30 minutes of no luck, and some intense moments; pa decided to head back into customs and try it again. He had noticed that my Chilean visa in my passport had his name on top, so decided to use that as evidence. After some royal sucking up, the ---hole, finally allowed us to leave Chile, which left us with about 2 minutes to run to the plane and board. This same thing happened in Paraguay all the time, but there we could just offer a bribe and be on our way.

Anyway, we drove to Richmond and spent last night and today relaxing and getting ready for pa's work to begin. Richmond is packed full of U.S. and Civil War History, from being the capital of the confederacy to being the location of Jamestown! We spent the day loking at historical sites, and the best part was the visit to the children's museum this morning. There were lots of cool gadgets, building blocks, water toys, and anything else you could imagine. Two hours was enough, and I ended up losing one of my shoes! As a topper to the day, we spent an hour in the heated pool so I could practice my splashing.

Tomorrow, more civil war site seeing; the it will mostly be ma and myself for three days while pa starts his work at the University of Richmond - then we head North. Oh yeah, the people in Virgina are so nice, it is incredible and so different from Chile!
