We did our annual weekend adventure today, visiting Colonia and Los Andes. After a brief stop at Starbucks, we were off to explore new towns north of Santiago, on the highway to Mendoza, Argentina. Colonia is a small town about 50 Kimometers from our house. It is a beautiful drive, and one of dad's future bike routes. We visited the weekend market in the center of Colonia, and grandma really liked it. It was nice to get out of the "Beverly Hills" of Chile, and interact with the everyday Chilean - boy what a difference. Instead of SUVs and designer stores, there were horse carts and street food. A great experience, and it was hard to get grandma away.
We then kept driven towards Los Andes, where we were going to visit a famous French Cafe. Well, by the time we reached the town, I was too tired, and spent about 30 mintes crying in the back seat. By the time mom and grandma put me to sleep, we had to turn around without even getting out of the car - well.....it looked like a nice town. We will have to go visit again, and go all the way up to Portillo Ski Resort, and then into Argentina to see Mendoza and dad's future mountain climb - Aconcagua.
We were back home in time to do a family hike behind our house, and grandma completed her first "Andes Summit". She loved the view and the cacti. Lopez loved the wild horses and cows.
